Just over a year ago, Google launched Universal Search. Prior to this, a search query resulted in a list of ten web search results ranking in order of relevancy. Separately, Google used a different process to determine if other related information such as News headlines should be added to the search results page.
So… what is universal search exactly?
Universal search blends news, blogs, videos, images, books, maps into web results measuring them all using this one system to determine the comparative ranking for the search engine results page. In other words, they are all ranked against each other for relevance and search isn’t just for web pages anymore.
